Nearly everyone is going to know, but we don't get much Winter here in Texas. At least not near the Dallas, TX area. So, on a fairly cold February 2010 morning, the eleven inches (yes, that's 11") of snowfall that had occurred while most of us slept was--well, it was an absolute chin-dropping shock! From a photographer's perspective...it was pure panic. There were so very many images that came to mind to capture; but not a road one was able to be traveled from out in the country here in rural Forney, TX. So, we had to be happy to walk, as best we could, in the snow until at least a little later in the day where we finally ventured out, but not more than a 1/2 mile or so from the house. You see, we don't generally have snow tires and the car just spun and spun on most of the very short trip we could manage.
On the morning of February 11, 2010 (I think that was the date) when we in Forney, Texas woke up to 11" of snowfall that had, literally, fallen in one night and late at that. I (Kim) remember leavning Waxahachie on the evening of the snow event, at around 10:30PM and thinking, "Darn, I wish it would get to more than 1/4" deep," which is what had then fallen. It was fun to drive in the tunnel of flakes! I'd not done that in many years and it made me smile all the way back home.
So, that is when this image, loved by all who've seen in mounted and matted and framed. It is a digital photography of a hay rake sitting in a Texas field with snow all over it. The scene unfolds behind as one of those desolate Winter scenes but it's digitally rendered to a chalk drawing--so appropriate for the texture of snow!
